From the author of The Demon Race comes a YA dark fantasy series inspired by Inuit mythology. In the heart of the frigid North, there lives a demon known as the Face Stealer. Eyes, nose, mouth—nothing and no one is safe. Once he returns to his lair, or wherever it is he dwells, no one ever sees those faces again. When tragedy strikes, Apaay embarks on a perilous journey to find her sister’s face—yet becomes trapped in a labyrinth ruled by a sinister girl named Yuki. The girl offers Apaay a deal: find her sister’s face hidden within the labyrinth, and she will be set free. But the labyrinth, and those who inhabit it, is not as it seems. Especially Numiak: darkly beautiful, powerful, whose motives are not yet clear.
With time slipping, Apaay is determined to escape the deadly labyrinth with her sister’s face in hand. But in Yuki’s harsh world, Apaay will need all her strength to survive.
Yuki only plays the games she wins.

Below is toted as a dark YA fantasy inspired by Inuit mythology. I know nothing about Inuit mythology. From what i looked up and tried to understand what unfolds holds true to that inspiration. Below is a very dark and cold, frigid tale. We follow our main character Apaay as she attempts to track down a demon called the Face Stealer. He comes to her village after she sent her younger sister home and steals face leaving nothing behind but her nostrils.
When Apaay sets out she tells no on what she doing as most of her village even her parents think she is worthless and that she not very talented in the ways of her people. This need up being a 3 star for me mostly cause i finished the book but i was cringing and wanting to throw it quite a bit. Their are lots of things that are cringed worthy in this story as Apaay battles against not only the face stealer but his partner in crime Yuki.
She trapped in what is basically a labyrinth and force to play games that are meant to break down her spirit and have her forget her goal is to save her sister face. Along the way more faces are stolen. As the games progressed they get more and more twisted and by the last 30 percent i just wanted it to be done. I not a fan of this book and if you looking for a novel that is twisted and cruel with lots of secrets unfolding you might be a fan. This is only a book one so not a lot gets resolved between Apaay and the Face Stealer and Yuki.
Alexandria Warwick is the #1 fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender. She is the author
